I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the idea of staying fit, I don’t always make it to the gym. Especially in the busy fall season. There’s just no TIME. I love taking Body Pump– but when I’m over scheduled driving 15-20 minutes to the gym, taking a 1 hour class, driving another 15-20 minutes home and then cleaning up after getting sweaty….that’s 2 hours out of my day for 1 class. It’s easily the first thing I drop when I get stressed for time and I know that isn’t the best idea. But something’s gotta go, right?
Maybe staying fit doesn’t have to be the first thing you drop.
I got to try a 2 week trial of Aaptiv recently. This is a little app for your smartphone to help you stay fit. They even figured out how to make treadmill running interesting. Say what?
It’s audio-only. So you don’t have to worry about squinting to look at a little screen to watch a video. They’ve got great music, and they coach you through each workout in an encouraging yet non-obnoxious manner.
When you first open the app, there are categories for you to search. Outdoor running, walking, treadmill, even elliptical. There’s strength training, yoga, meditation, and even programs to help you train for everything from a 5k to a full marathon.
If you are really short on time, go to “Find a Workout” and you can search for difficulty level and length. There are a ton of workouts under 10 minutes that are available. Surely you can spare just 10 minutes a day for your health?
I like to run, but sometimes running outside isn’t possible. The treadmill at the gym comes with childcare, which is a huge plus, but let’s be real. The treadmill is a torture device. It’s boring. Boring. Boring. I hate the dreadmill. (nope, not a typo, that’s what I prefer to call it) Except Aaptiv actually figured out how to make that interesting, too. They have great music playing, and the trainer talks you through it. Set your speed to this. Ok, change it to this. Slow it down, speed it up, and she’s talking to you to keep your interest up. You aren’t just spacing out, wishing you were anywhere else in the world, feeling like a hamster in a wheel.
The other thing I really found I loved is the meditation section. I played them when I was driving, as a way to clear my mind and de-stress a little. Now I know that’s not the full experience as I couldn’t fully relax my body and close my eyes, but it really helped lower my blood pressure ands put my schedule into perspective.
Pregnant? Not sure what is okay to do? They’ve got you covered. They have special maternity workouts, separated into 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester! Special workouts geared toward your changing body, based on what you can do. Touch your toes in the first trimester? Maybe. The third trimester? Yeah, right. They actually understand this and built programs for each trimester to keep you fit.
Aaptiv has a 7 day free trial to check it out, and it’s only $9.99 a month with no limit on the amount of workouts you can use each month.
This is a post inspired by Aaptiv. I used a free trial for this review. All opinions are 100% my own, I was not compensated for my review. This is a cool app!
