I had the joy of photographing an engagement session in Bel Air, MD this summer.
I know, you are thinking- engagements? Jen- you are a family photographer. You don’t do weddings!
This wasn’t your typical engagement session. In addition to celebrating the happy couple, they included his kids. It was a celebration of a new family blending together.
Marrying someone who has kids isn’t about pledging to spend your life with your partner. It’s also about pledging yourself to the kids- to be there for them, to step-parent in a way that honors both their parents, to open your heart and love these children the way they deserve- unconditionally. I have heard time and time again from step-parents: it’s certainly not for the weak, but it can be an absolute joy to have the kids in your life.
I absolutely love how important it was to this couple to include the kids in this portrait session- to really emphasize that they are a family. Togetherness. Joy. Love. Especially love; I could clearly see how loved these kids are- from both adults.
I wish all the years of joy and love and laughter to this new family!
