Every September, SARC hosts a huge party in Bel Air, MD. Their annual “Rising Above It” is a Balloon Glow gala, a great evening to dress up, enjoy some phenomenal food, live music, and auction, all to benefit this very-much needed nonprofit in Harford County.
SARC provides services to help those experiencing domestic violence. They run a 24 hour help line, counseling services, crisis intervention, and a safe house to make sure women in danger have a place to go. They accompany women to medical visits and to the courtroom because no one should have to deal with this alone. All of these services are completely free of charge.
All of these services, however, are also expensive. It takes fundraising to run a safe house. To maintain a 24 hour help line. SARC needs the support of the community to help abuse victims rise above their situations and become thriving survivors.
To help offset these costs, SARC hosts several fundraising events throughout the year. In the spring is the famous “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” where men form teams, raise money, and literally walk a mile in downtown Bel Air in heels.
September is the annual gala. This year, they had a beautiful mardi gras masquerade party. The night started out with dinner, talks from one of SARC’s survivors, Holly (of October’s Holly’s Hope 5k fundraiser), and Luisa, CEO of SARC. The live auction kicked off afterwards, which is always an event not to be missed. The auctioneer they have each year is fantastic and keeps it lively and competitive- don’t blink or you may miss something!
The cigar and whiskey tasting opened up outside as the balloons began to fill. After dessert (including a King Cake of course!), everyone moved to the patio outside to dance under the stars. Remains of Radio was playing, the balloons were glowing, and the weather was perfect.
This event is not only a pretty amazing date night, but you will walk away knowing you supported a crucial nonprofit in the area. They can’t do it alone- SARC needs our support to help end the cycle of domestic violence.
Sounds like a great evening to you? Follow SARC on Facebook so you can get tickets for next year’s event!
